Self-paced Workday training — now open for all employees and managers

Workday will go live at all 13 Universities of Wisconsin (UW) universities on July 7. While not required, all UW employees are encouraged to complete Workday training to learn how to perform key employee and manager tasks and more.

The courses for all employees and managers are available now in your Universities of Wisconsin instance of Canvas.

Workday for Employees

With employee self-service in Workday you can:

  • Submit your time worked
  • Request time off
  • Update your address and personal information
  • Initiate requisitions to purchase goods or services
  • Submit expense reports
  • Complete performance reviews
  • Apply for internal jobs
  • Sign up for training (Learning Management)

You can also view:

  • Leave balances
  • Payslips
  • Organization chart
  • Workday training history

Workday Fundamentals: Workday for All Employees – Learn how to navigate your home page, view and edit information, and understand the difference between My Tasks and Notifications. The course includes overviews, brief demonstrations, and practice tasks for you to complete. (approx. 45 minutes)

Expenses in Workday

If you submit or approve expense reports, or use a university-issued credit card, these two courses are recommended:

  • Expense Reports and Credit Cards in Workday Part 1 (approx. 40 minutes)
  • Expense Reports and Credit Cards in Workday Part 2 (approx. 50 minutes)

Workday for Managers

With manager-self-service you can:

  • Approve timesheets
  • Create work schedules
  • Approve time-off requests
  • Assign learning courses to staff
  • Generate reports with real-time data
  • Create and approve expense reports

Workday Fundamentals: Workday for Managers – Learn how to use the My Team Management Dashboard to review and take action on tasks for your employees. You’ll also learn about the Time and Scheduling Hub, where you will review and approve time off for employees and see the performance, talent, and learning features (approx. 40 minutes; prerequisite – Workday Fundamentals: Workday for All Employees).

Future training and resources

  • Training for human resources, finance, purchasing, and research administrators, as well as faculty and staff, will be offered again in August and October.
  • The Workday Training Tenant is available for reference alongside computer-based training (CBT), webinars, or instructor-led training (ILT). CBTs and webinars can be completed without the use of the Workday Training Tenant.
    • Log in to the Workday Training Tenant using your UW credentials via single sign on (SSO).
    • Employees active as of February 22, 2025, will have access to the Workday Training Tenant.
    • Employees hired after February 22, 2025, will be given a temporary training account for ILT courses.
  • Courses and other training materials will be available for reference through go-live and beyond.
  • Key job aids are being translated into multiple languages: English, Spanish, Chinese, Tibetan, Hmong, and Nepali.
  • The Enterprise Solutions User Support Portal via Ivanti will provide direct assistance and guidance for Workday training and learning support after July 7.
