The newest video from ATP, “What’s Changing: Moving from UDDS to Workday Organizations,” explains how Workday organizations will provide a new structure for Universities of Wisconsin business processes.

Watch the video

For many years, UDDS has been the framework to organize financial and HR data within most of our current systems. But the current framework and systems cannot meet the needs of the Universities of Wisconsin.

Workday will organize HR and financial information in ways that give us greater flexibility, better reporting, and streamlined workflows.

Organizations are the building blocks of Workday’s framework. Two Workday organizations — supervisory organizations and cost center hierarchies — will replace UDDS as the way we organize and manage people and money.

Supervisory organizations (sup orgs) are groupings of employees who report to the same manager.

All UW employees will belong to at least one sup org. Staff can view sup orgs in Workday and see how they roll up to the next sup org to provide a current organizational chart.

Cost Centers and the UW Cost Center Hierarchy

Cost centers generally identify a university department. They organize financial information for workflows and reporting. A budget, employees, and ongoing expenses are typically assigned to a cost center.

Cost centers roll up to the next organization level to create one reporting hierarchy for the Universities of Wisconsin.

How will Workday’s framework help you and the Universities of Wisconsin?

  • Cost centers and cost center hierarchies provide the structure to organize the financial activities of our universities.
  • Supervisory organizations let us organize and report on employees.
  • Sup orgs and cost center hierarchies will standardize workflows and allow for better information sharing and reporting than we have with UDDS.
